5.5 SR Earthquake Strike Padang City

Monday, January 9th, 2017, the earthquake was felt in the Padang City, Pesisir Selatan and Muko-Muko (Bengkulu). Based on information from BMKG, the quake is felt about 5 - 10 seconds was centered on the sea at a depth of 17 km with an epicenter 64 km northwest of the South Coast or 83 km southwest of the padang City, West Sumatra. The source of the quake comes from the subduction zones of the Australian and Eurasian plate. The earthquake is not bringing tsunami potential.

The surrounding areas such as Solok, Pariaman, Padang Pariaman also feel the shocks caused by the earthquake. Aftershocks are also felt with light intensity.

Until now there are no reports related to casualties and impacts due to the earthquake. The condition of society has returned to normal.
